Layer information

Our system uses a combination of thematic, topographic, and raster layers.
We also provide the tools to turn the visibility of each of the layers on and off.
It becomes very challenging when layering layers from many difference sourse on top of each other. If your having troubles understanding the information or see an error, please contact Darryl Felton

Building (To Scale)

  • This layer depicts buildings from 1984 Air Photography. The outline of the building has been digitized to scale. Including the town of Parry Sound
  • This layer is maintained by the Ministry of Natural Resources and L. U Maughan Company

Building (Symbol)

  • This layer depicts buildings from 1984 Air Photography. The building is shown as a point symbol / black square.
  • This layer is maintained by the Ministry of Natural Resources

Cities / Towns

  • This layer depicts Cities and or Towns / Villages / Communities in the District.
  • This layer is maintained by the Ministry of Natural Resources

Business

  • This layer depicts Cities and or Towns / Villages / Communities in the District.
  • This layer is maintained by the Ministry of Natural Resources

Roads

  • This layer depicts Roads in six different classifications
    • Freeway
      • eg. Highway 400
    • Expressway / Highway
      • eg. Highway 69
    • Collector
      • eg. Bowes Street in Parry Sound
    • Local / Street
      • eg. James Street in Parry Sound
    • Ramp
      • eg. Access ramps to major highways
    • Service
      • eg. Service roads to major highways
  • This layer is maintained by the Ministry of Natural Resources

Railway

  • This layer depicts Railway beds both in use and abandon.
  • This layer is maintained by the Ministry of Natural Resources

Contours

  • This layer depicts elevation contours. For the southern portion (Approximately Municipality of Whitestone South) the contours are at a 5 meter increment. North portion are at a 10 meter increment.
  • This layer is maintained by the Ministry of Natural Resources

Bays and Channels

  • This layer labels some of the local bay and channel names on Georgian Bay and inland lakes. Also depicts some points of land and some popular locations.
  • This layer is maintained and kept up to date by L. U. Maughan Company Limited.

Survey Outlines

  • Use the Survey search tools
  • to interact with the map and load the registered survey(s) in PDF form.
  • This layer currently maps survey plans from the following townships.
    • Archipelago ( Township of The )
    • Carling (Township of )
    • McDougall (Municipality of)
    • McKellar (Township of )
    • Parry Sound (Town of)
    • Whitestone (Municipality of)
  • This layer is maintained and kept up to date by L. U. Maughan Company Limited.
  • Township of Seguin Mapping is underway as of November 2007, project completion date in 2010.

Wooded Area

  • This layer depicts the wooded area or vegetation from 1984 Air Photography.

Utility Line

  • This layer depicts the transmission lines or utility lines including major hydro and bell lines.
  • This layer is maintained by the Ministry of Natural Resources

Islands

  • This layer depicts the limits of islands both on inland lakes and on the Georgian Bay. Island name and number are stored with in.
  • This layer is maintained and kept up to date by L. U. Maughan Company Limited.

Ownership

  • This layer depicts the assessed lands currently for the following townships.
    • Archipelago ( Township of The )
    • Carling (Township of )
    • McDougall (Municipality of)
    • McKellar (Township of )
    • Parry Sound (Town of)
    • Seguin (Township of)
    • Whitestone (Municipality of)
  • This layer is maintained and kept up to date by L. U. Maughan Company Limited.
  • Township of Seguin Mapping is underway as of November 2007, project completion date in October 2007.

Township Fabric

  • This layer depicts the geographic township lots for the entire district of Parry Sound. This layer is purly used for mapping the approximate location of each lot and is not to be used for accurately locating the location.
  • This layer is maintained by the Ministry of Natural Resources

Geographic Township

  • This layer depicts the geographic townships for the entire district of Parry Sound.
  • This layer is maintained by the Ministry of Natural Resources

Aerial Photography

  • We are currently have 1:4,000 photography for all of the Town of Parry Sound flown in 2000;
  • We are currently have 1:15,000 photography for all of the West Parry Sound District flown in 2004 covering the areas from French River south to Seguin Township including the Municipalities of;

River / Stream

  • This layer depicts all of the Rivers and Streams from 1984 Air Photography. Any river under 20 meters in width will be shown as a line. Any river wider that 20 meters will be shows as a polygon on the Waterbody layer.
  • This layer is maintained by the Ministry of Natural Resources

Water Edge

  • This layer depicts the outlines of all of the Waterbody polygon features including lakes, marshes and rivers (rivers over 20 meters in width)
  • This layer is maintained by the Ministry of Natural Resources

Waterbody

  • This layer depicts the a Waterbody polygon for features including lakes, marshes and rivers (rivers over 20 meters in width)
  • This layer is maintained by the Ministry of Natural Resources
